 This photography adventure trek will have your shutters in overdrive as we take you across the top of Australia from one amazing location to another. Its really Darwin to Wyndham but Kakadu to Kimberley sounded much better.

Join us as we take you over a land billions of years in the making.

Let your senses indulge the breathtaking wonder of this incredible photographer’s paradise.

You'll experience a journey of discovery as we traverse from Darwin in the Northern Territory across to Wyndham in Western Australia. You'll discover an incredibly diverse range of birds, wildlife and stunning landscapes from the comfort of an air-conditioned 4WD. We'll take you adventuring off-road to photograph wildlife and ancient landscapes in remote and unique locations.

We'll explore Darwin and the surrounding area, visiting all the birding hotspots before venturing off-road into Litchfield National Park. You'll be amazed by the huge magnetic termite mounds and the lost city limestone pillars will have you enthralled.

A sunset cruise at the famous Yellow Waters will be a highlight of the tour but then we'll follow it up with a sunrise cruise to give you another go at the Jacanas, Jabirus and Jaws. Jaws of the huge estuarine crocodiles inhabiting the waterways.

We'll travel through remote areas and take you to areas renowned for having certain bird species, some not found anywhere else. We'll always be on the lookout for Gouldian Finch and Purple-crowned Fairywrens and many others.

You'll cruise Lake Argyle with its huge waterbird population and then a few days later cruise the mighty Ord River, teaming with birds and wildlife.

Day-to-Day Program

Day 1

Arrive Darwin. Depending on everyone’s arrival times we hope to have a late afternoon visit to the Botanic Gardens in search of the imposing Rufous Owl. Barking Owl are also possible, and we should have our first encounter with Torresian Imperial-Pigeon and the relatively tame Orange-footed Scrubfowl.

Day 2

Today we will visit some localised birding spots around Darwin seeking out some of the area’s specialities such as: Red-headed Honeyeater, Green-backed Gerygone, Torresian Kingfisher, Rainbow Pitta and Bush Stone-curlew to mention but a few of the potential photography opportunities.

Day 3

Departing Darwin today we will have some early morning photography time on route to the Territory Wildlife Park. This is an awesome place to get an introduction to some of the unique birds and wildlife of The Top End, via a walk-through aviary and wild birds in a billabong and monsoonal forest habitat. A free flight raptor display will give you the opportunity to capture these magnificent creatures up close.

Day 4

A full day to explore and capture some landscape images of the magnificent scenery of Litchfield National Park, taking in beautiful waterfalls and pools, the sandstone pillars of the Lost City and the iconic magnetic termite mounds. Oh, and of course the birds!

Day 5

This morning we will continue our journey to Fogg Dam, a fantastic water resource for birds. Brolga, Jacana, Crimson Finches, Rainbow Bee-eaters, Black-necked Stork, flycatchers and kingfishers abound. Onwards from here, allowing some photography stops on the way with mangrove species and a variety of finches our priority, in time for the piece de resistance of Kakadu, the Yellow Waters sunset cruise. You will be in photographers’ heaven with up close opportunities for a variety of birds, water and bush, plus an abundance of crocodile and usually Water buffalo.

Day 6

We start the day where we left off yesterday with the morning light this time on our cruise, the crocodiles are less active so birds will be the main focus. After an enormous breakfast we will continue our travels towards Pine Creek, where there are many birds around town, Gouldian Finches, Hooded Parrots, Great Bowerbirds, Red-collared and Varied Lorikeets, and Grey-crowned Babbler will be in our sights.

Day 7

Continuing south today we will stake out some water holes early morning with the possibilities being Gouldian, Masked, Long-tailed, Crimson and Double-barred Finches plus Hooded Parrots. Peaceful and Bar-shouldered Doves, Banded and Rufous-throated Honeyeaters are all on our agenda. A visit to Edith Falls should also allow some great photographic opportunities for birds such as Lemon-Belied Flycatcher, Yellow-tinted Honeyeater, Little Woodswallow and Northern Fantail. Afterwards we will travel on via Victoria River, towards the WA border. We will search for the magnificent Purple-crowned Fairy-wren along the way.
An astro shoot with incredibly clear skies is on the cards tonight.

Day 8

This morning we will photograph around Timber Creek, focusing on finches, Star Finches and Yellow-rumped Mannikins should be more common now as well as many other birds such as Spinifex Pigeons, Australian Bustard and Black-faced Woodswallow.
Magnificent BoabTrees enhance the rugged landscape along the way.
Upon arrival into Kununurra we will check into our hotel then check out some local sites for Buff-sided Robin, White-browed Crake and many more.

Day 9

An early start for the magnificent Lake Argyle dedicated bird cruise, whilst Yellow Chat will be our main photographic target, many other birds will be present, particularly as we pull in close to shore and have a substantial breakfast. We should also have close encounters with Short-eared Rock-wallaby.

Day 10

This morning we will photograph close to Kununurra with our main aims being to photograph; White-quilled Rock-Pigeon, Sandstone Shrikethrush and Short-eared Rock-wallaby.
In the afternoon we head out to Parry’s Lagoon near Wyndham. A tremendous water resource for a variety of water birds and a valuable drinking source for doves, parrots and finches. A bird hide provides us great opportunities for photographing the wildlife.

Day 11

Early morning around our lodgings to photograph birds coming in for their first drink of the day, Gouldian, Masked, Long-tailed Finches and many more. After breakfast we will have another visit to Parry’s Lagoon

Day 12

A day on the water and around Hairy Dogs Fishing Camp. The
Ord River is a nature photographer’s paradise. We will spend a full day out on the river in purpose built dinghies photographing the tropical river-life. We capture abundant birdlife in its native habitat and it’s one of the few places in Australia where you can photograph freshwater and saltwater crocodiles side by side.

Day 13

Our trip comes to an end with morning drop offs into Kununurra.
